August 1 – Kihonda well installed

During the last week of July, the Busoga Trust team completed installation of the well in Kihonda village. This is the 2nd well that Busoga Trust has put in operation in Masindi.

In other villages: excavation has reached a depth of 23ft in Kigunya, though the water table has yet to be struck. In Nyakarongo, the well has been dug to a depth 21ft with a water column of 6ft and a recharge rate of 2ft an hour. The well has been sealed and is ready for installation in early August.

To promote awareness of hygene sanitation, Busoga Trust has undertaken several projects in Masindi, including:

- a partnership with Masindi-Kitara Diocese and Masindi District Local Government’s Water Office to deliver a water, hygiene and sanitation initiative to a female church group known as Mother’s Union.

- a weekly radio show broadcast that introduces Busoga Trust to Masindi District at large. Shows in July focused on the sanitation components necessary for a homestead.

- a School Sanitation Awareness Campaign. The effort was kicked off in July at Nyakarongo Primary School.
